Medifast Clinical Studies
Medifast is not just another product claiming to help you
lose weight. Medifast works and has been clinically proven sale
and effective time and again. But don't just take our word for
it. Several clinical studies by top-notch researchers support
our claims that Medifast is not a fad, but a solid, dependable
way to lose weight and develop a healthier lifestyle.
Johns Hopkins Weight Management Center
For over eight years, the Johns Hopkins Weight Management Center
in Baltimore, MD has chosen Medifast products for their
very-low-calorie weight loss programs. In clinical studies
conducted by Johns Hopkins, researchers found that the vast
majority of patients (91% of males and 72% of females) lost more
than 40 lbs. on the Medifast program in 16 weeks. Researchers
concluded that weight loss programs by Medifast provide a safe,
effective means of weight reduction and are accompanied by
significant improvements in coexisting health problems.

Diabetic Study: Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School Of Public Health
In June 2005, researchers from released the results of an
86-week diabetic weight loss study that found participants using
Medifast’s portion-controlled, meal replacement program
lost
twice as much weight and were twice as likely to complete the
study as participants following a standard food diet based on
the dietary guidelines of the American Diabetes Association
(ADA). Additionally, 24 percent of the Medifast users decreased
or eliminated their diabetes medication, compared to 0 percent
on the standard food diet. The study, “Long-Term Efficacy of 2
Diet Plans for Type 2 Diabetes on Weight Loss and Weight
Maintenance,” was officially presented by Johns Hopkins
Associate Professor Dr. Lawrence J. Cheskin, MD, during the
American Diabetes Association’s 65th Annual Scientific Session
in San Diego June 11, 2005.
University of Vermont at Burlington
The University of Vermont at Burlington selected Medifast
products for its NIH-commissioned Obesity Study entitled "Energy
Metabolism in the Post-Obese State." This four-year study will
help define the metabolic consequences of the mutation in the
B3AR gene in the regulation of daily energy expenditure and fat
metabolism in older women. Researchers at the University of
Vermont chose to use Medifast and Take Shape products in the
study based on the recommendation of Dr. Lawrence Cheskin,
Director of the Weight Management Center at Johns Hopkins
University.

Maine State Prison
Prison physicians with prior experience using the Medifast
program have begun treating obese inmates with Medifast. Reports
indicate that the improved health of these individuals directly
translates to significant cost savings in medical care in a
short period of time. With the initial weight losses achieved
with Medifast, many patients have already reduced or
discontinued medications needed to treat associated health
conditions including hypertension, diabetes, and
hypercholesterolemia, among others.
